f you’re not as familiar with The Question, it’s time for a little backstory. Introduced in DC Comics back in 1967, The Question is one of those rare characters who doesn’t just fight crime—he questions it. Originally, the character was investigative journalist Vic Sage, but over the years, others have donned the mask as well. What makes The Question unique is his “faceless” appearance. Rather than using a mask that covers his face, he wears a special substance called Pseudoderm, which renders his features completely blank. According to DC lore, this was originally created by scientists as a synthetic skin. When applied to The Question’s face, it sticks like glue, giving him his signature featureless look.
For a character who lives in the grey areas of morality and often battles not just criminals but also corrupt systems, the lack of a face is an apt metaphor. It emphasizes his role as a silent observer and a relentless seeker of truth. The Question’s dedication to justice, despite his somewhat unconventional methods, has made him a cult favourite among fans of DC Comics.
